About Me

Basic Information

I'm a so-called scientific research peasant worker, a faculty member in Antarctic Astronomy Research Group in the National Astronomical Observatories(NAOC). My research interests are primarily on star clusters and the binary stars in them, the formation and evolution of star clusters, variable stars discovery with multi-epoch  large sky area survey and their automated classification. Besides, I am involved in engineering work of the Antarctic Survey Telescope(AST3) project. I am developing an fully automated observation software packages in a low air pressure, low temperature and none of man-maintenance condition for the AST3.

Experiences

I was born in rural countryside of a county in the middle of Hubei Province. I spent my primary, junior and senior middle school time there. In 2000, I went to Tianjin to attend Nankai University, studied in physics department. It was the first time I went outside of Hubei. Since then, I was interested in Astronomy, especially the formation, evolution and final destination of stars.

In 2004, I passed the National Postgraduate Entrance Examination and went to NAOC. A years later, I became a PhD candidate. I had two supervisors, one was Licai Deng who is the chief scientist of the Stellar and Stellar System Group in NAOC, and Richard de Grijs who was a senior lecturer in Sheffield University at that time and now a professor in Peking University. My PhD thesis topic was the binary fraction of the star clusters in the Large Magellanic Cloud, I got my PhD in 2011.

After then I worked in the Antarctic Astronomy Research Group. In the end of that year, I attended the 28th Chinese Antarctic Scientific Expedition and was a member of Kunlun Team. In January 2012, we arrived at Dome A — the summit of the Antarctic Continent, where the Kulun Station was built on. Other three astronomical teammates and me together mounted the first AST3 telescope and the power supply system PLATO-A with great help of other teammates.

Other interests

I am a very boring man. In my spare time I usually read astronomical books or computer science/programming books. I like to get information, to learn techniques from BBS and to discuss hot topics with other users. I have my own website and blog, sometimes I post some words on them. Only a few of my friends know the site. I like drinking, but I am not alcohol-abused or alcohol-dependent. Perhaps, drinking with my closet friend is one of my few offline social activities.
